Job Description

We are seeking a Cross Class Underwriter to join our Middle Market team based in our Birmingham office. This role involves underwriting multi-line policies for middle market clients in various sectors, including real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services, technology, and life sciences. You will work closely with retail brokers to build and maintain long-term relationships while ensuring business profitability.

Main Responsibilities

• Evaluate new and renewal submissions to identify profitable opportunities aligned with company objectives.
• Analyse pricing, coverage, structure, and exposures on individual risks.
• Set appropriate terms and conditions in line with company underwriting strategy and guidelines.
• Attend client and broker meetings, as well as business development events.
• Maintain underwriting discipline and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
• Develop and expand the existing portfolio through relationship management and business development.
• Conduct individual account underwriting audits as required.
• Submit underwriting referrals for risks outside of authority for senior approval.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Cross class underwriting experience within the middle market sector.
• University degree in insurance, business, or a related field (preferred).
• At least 3+ years of property and casualty underwriting experience.
• Proven experience in middle market underwriting.
• Established relationships with retail producers.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to develop business relationships.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
