Who did we survey?

Surveying over 5000 niche tech professionals across Fintech, Greentech, Insurtech, Healthtech, and the Public Sector, we’ve included valuable insights covering...

  • Key hiring trends including working environment
  • Job mobility
  • Diversity, the gender gap, and how it shows up at the most senior levels
  • The impact of AI on tech jobs
  • Breakdown of salaries and pay rates across niche tech roles

We surveyed specialist Tech, Change and Transformation contractors and permanent employees across a variety of areas including: Software Development (JavaScript, C#, DevOps, PHP and Python), Mobile (Android & iOS), Data & Analytics, Dynamics, Public Sector (Higher Education, Housing Associations, NHS and Government).

The participants were at a mid, senior and C-Suite experience level based across the UK.

Preferred working environments

Flexible working remains supreme – at least, it seems, in tech-related roles. Our survey surprisingly revealed only 5% of permanent and 2% of contract staff currently work full-time onsite, with even fewer (2% and 1% respectively) preferring this arrangement for future roles.

Hybrid working remains popular among permanent staff (55% current, 50% preferred), while contractors show a stronger preference for remote work (58% current, 62% preferred).

Salaries and pay rates

Our report covers over 78 niche roles across Data, Dynamics, Mobile, Software Development and specialist Systems (Housing Associations, Higher Education, the NHS and Government).

Key statistics

Key findings can help unlock motivators and attractors to businesses, helping inform your hiring strategy.

Gender gap remains

1

Unfortunately, there is a persistent gender imbalance in the tech sector. Our survey reveals that women represent only 20% of the workforce, with bigger gaps at senior levels.

Diversity challenges

2

Our survey highlights representation challenges. While 26% of respondents identify as non-White/British, only 15% hold senior or C-Suite positions.

Legislation changes and impact

3

From April 6, 2025, new labour laws under the UK Labour Government’s Employment Rights Bill and "One Day Rights" will impact the hiring landscape. These changes could heighten hiring risks and costs, compelling organisations to review permanent hiring, allocating more internal resources and implementing more robust processes.
