We are seeking a talented and proactive leader to head our Planning Team and take charge of the development and delivery of an enhanced range of planning services across the University. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a dynamic team and contribute to the University’s strategic direction and long-term success.

Main Purpose of the Job:

As the Head of Planning, you will oversee the University’s integrated planning cycle and provide strategic decision support, advice, reporting, and analytics across all levels. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating and leading a team dedicated to delivering high-quality planning services, while ensuring that we meet our statutory data requirements.

Summary of the role:

Position: Head of Planning 
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 
Mode: Hybrid 2-3 days - London, negotiable
Benefits: 30 days + bank holidays + university closure days + pension 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and inspire the Planning team, driving high-quality data insights, strategic advice, and continuous improvement.

  • Foster an innovative culture, embedding a proactive approach to service delivery and team collaboration.

  • Provide development support and guidance to your team, helping them thrive and grow in their roles.

Strategic Planning & Risk

  • Coordinate integrated strategic planning across all departments, leading key processes such as student number planning and departmental performance assessment.

  • Oversee risk management in collaboration with the Director of Planning and Strategic Projects, ensuring our strategy is resilient and well-managed.

  • Offer consulting support to academic and professional services departments, enhancing operational planning and risk management processes.

Data & Insight Services

  • Lead large-scale data analytics projects, providing valuable insights and supporting data-driven decision-making at the highest level.

  • Oversee the production of comprehensive analysis on a range of university activities and support the enhancement of data practices across the institution.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of statutory data returns to bodies such as HESA, the Office for Students, and the Department for Education.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead the development of new products and services that enhance the planning function and support the University’s strategic priorities.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the University, embedding data-driven decision-making and fostering an analytical culture.
