What makes Gravitas the Best Recruitment Company of the Year 2023?

Gravitas were delighted to learn that we had won the coveted APSCo 2023 Recruitment Company of the Year £50-250million turnover award, recently. For us this was a particularly satisfying achievement, with these particular awards being notoriously difficult even to be shortlisted in.

In an age where we are constantly deluged with information and announcements from one business or another, to call your company 'award-winning' may almost seem gratuitous. However, Gravitas has won a number of awards, and each one requires hard work and an outstanding story to tell about the company and its developments in order to even be shortlisted, let alone win.

What was the awards process and how do APSCo select their winners?

Let’s start with who APSCo are. APSCo are an international trade body offering global services with local delivery to the international recruitment sector throughout Australia, Germany, South East Asia and the UK. They are focused on raising standards and delivering expert support and market intelligence to members which is why this industry award means so much.

The vigorous APSCo awards process featured:

• An initial written entry: with the questions delving into the financials, performance, ethics and processes within our business. All requiring solid supporting evidence.

• A condensed shortlist: only 3 businesses were selected in each category, out of the whole of the UK recruitment market

• A final stage face-to-face interview: this process was described by APSCo themselves as "an apprentice style grilling”.

Why were Gravitas selected as the 2023 best Recruitment Company of the Year?

When entering it is fair to say that we knew that Gravitas had had a very successful year, having appointed a new CRO (later appointed as CEO), opened 2 new German offices, acquired R2 Group to set up our first office in the Netherlands and then acquired Hamlyn Williams' in Shenzhen to strengthen our presence in China; all alongside exceptional performance and financials.

Yet the awards are not just about business performance, they are focused on identifying those companies that consistently demonstrate APSCo values. This means ensuring that:

• Our culture is equitable, diverse and inclusive.

• Our staff are supported and are trained and developed to be experts in their fields.

• We operate as an ethical, compliant and legal entity and adhere to best practice.

• We support our clients and candidates, with value added, professional services.

• We have a clear vision and purpose and a strategic plan to get there.

Over the past few years, and especially last year, we have been constantly strived to achieve all these things, led by a very clear purpose-led strategy. We were honoured that the judges at APSCo recognised our efforts.

The judge’s feedback reflected what makes Gravitas different, saying:
